Hello! I’m Nuria, welcome to Patagonias!

I would like to share something about the incredible adventure I started dreaming about and imagining in my mind since I moved to Holland 20 years ago….

I am originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I fell in love with a Dutch Frisian who brought me here in 2003. The first two years were a culture shock for both of us, with much to learn and, especially for me, new flavors to taste. But there were also many foods from my homeland that I missed.

Eating in Argentina is an important part of our lives, not because we spend all our time eating, but because we connect around food. The kitchen is the heart of the house, where we cook together and those who do not cook help by assisting with logistics, washing dishes, setting the table or pouring drinks. We connect through our common likes or dislikes, have heated discussions about food, or just have fun and laugh together. Due to extensive immigration, Argentina and its people are a mix of cultures. If I had to choose one word to describe us, it would be “passionate” – and that certainly applies to me!

Ordering gelato in the Netherlands

What I missed most when I arrived in the summer was gelato!!!! Yes, I know the Netherlands also has ice cream parlors – judgment yet to come! In Argentina, I was used to lying by the pool, ordering gelato by phone and it would be delivered to me!!! Yes! Nowadays, it is also possible to have ice cream delivered here, but back then, when I asked my husband to order for me, he would say, “Get dressed, and we’ll go to the store.” That was the day the entrepreneur in me started planning: Gelato anywhere, anytime!!!
